Performance characteristics of Re-Absorbent Oil
Re-Absorbent Oil made of polyurethane foam is an environmentally friendly product (100% recycled) that is used to remove petroleum-based substances from solid surfaces and liquids.
It is made from polyurethane foam recovered from used refrigerators in the recycling process at the Polska Korporacja Recyklingu waste electrical and electronic equipment processing plant in Lublin.
Re-Absorbent Oil made of polyurethane foam is therefore a material with excellent sorption properties, which can be used to clean water, land and surfaces of oil and oil-based pollutants.
This sorbent is also environmentally friendly, as it is produced from recycled materials and can be thermally recycled after use.
Polyurethane sorbent is a non-toxic and environmentally harmless material, which was also confirmed by a hygienic certificate from NIZP PZH-PIB* (National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene – National Research Institute).
This sorbent has the following
performance characteristics:
-
-
Bulk density:
the sorbent has a low bulk density, which means it is very light and easy to transport and store.
According to tests conducted by CNBOP-PIB* (Józef Tuliszowski Scientific and Research Center for Fire Protection – National Research Institute) and the Research and Development Center of the Polish Recycling Corporation, the bulk density of the sorbent is 53 g/l, which is within the acceptable range. -
Buoyancy:
The sorbent has 100% buoyancy, meaning that it floats even when saturated with oil or another pollutant. -
Sieve analysis:
Sorbent has a uniform grain structure, which ensures good air and water permeability. According to CBR tests, the content of grains with a diameter of more than 4 mm is less than 0.05% by weight, and the content of grains with a diameter of less than 0.125 mm is less than 5% by weight, which meets the requirements of CNBOP. The content of grains with different diameters results in better removal of contaminants from porous surfaces. -
Oil absorption:
The sorbent has a high oil absorption capacity (600%, i.e., one kg of sorbent absorbs 6 kg of contaminant), this means that it can absorb a large amount of oil substances relative to its own weight.
Sorbent becomes a hazardous material after absorbing the contamination according to the danger class of the absorbed liquid.
*CNBOP-PIB is a research institute of the State Fire Service (PSP), whose mission is to work to ensure the general security of the State, especially in the field of fire protection, environmental engineering, as well as civil protection.
*NIZP PZH- PIB is the oldest public health institution in Poland. The mission of the Institute at the turn of the century was to shape public health in Poland, particularly in the area of prevention of infectious diseases and infections, monitoring of risk factors in food, water and air, and health promotion.
